Department of Motor Vehicles/National Law Enforcement Telecommunications System/National Crime Information Center
The Wireless suite uses multiple data sources to retrieve details about people, vehicles and weapons. Any of these reportable items can be queried against local, state or national databases (e.g. DMV/NLETS/NCIC). When an officer performs a query using a driver’s license or social security number, our wireless reporting application automatically checks NCIC for warrants.
To reduce the amount of manual entry, demographic results from an inquiry can be utilized within a report, including the generation of arrest tickets from incident reports. When integrated with image databases, our application also returns mug-shots along with person results to help in identification. In addition to returning vehicle status, the vehicle’s license tag status (e.g. stolen, invalid, expired etc.) is also returned to the officer in mere seconds.
Import/Export
Our Wireless application works with other software vendors to ensure data compatibility between products. Automatic exports occur at specified intervals to guarantee that data collected from the field is available, near real-time.
Administrative Tools
The Wireless suite includes browser-based administrative tools to manage security, reporting, messaging and other functions over the local area network. The security application administrates the assignment of officers to a device, password changes, and the disabling/enabling of users and devices. In addition, reports are available to allow administrators to monitor the use of each application.
Social Media Endeavors
The department launched a facebook page on June 16, 2009. Since that time our facebook page has materialized into an excellent tool for our public to communicate with us, and an invaluable mechanism for us to push out information to the citizenry.
Our weekly total reach is over 1,000 with 4,020 individuals liking the page. We automatically post our departmental news releases, these go out to facebook at the same time the news outlets receive them. We also post live traffic crashes to our facebook site from our Twitter page.
Our Twitter page likewise has enjoyed a great reception from the public. We have nearly 2,700followers with an average of 90 new followers every month, and have dispatched 12,600 tweets. And in conjunction with our Washington County Emergency Communications District (911) we provide real-time crash locations for the motoring public. These notifications allow the motorist to avoid traffic tie-ups and provide other event notices. Our news releases are also automatic to the Twitter site.
The JCPD News Release and Information page is yet another highly utilized site. Over 456,688 pageviews. We average about 483 pageviews per day. Or over 14,500 per month.
Crime Mapping:
Submission to our crime mapping site are made multiple times per day. Individuals may observe incidents reported anywhere in the city. Citizens may create their own personalized email to be notified when incidents are listed in any area they wish to monitor.
