The Johnson City Police Department arrested Michael Grindstaff (40 yrs old, 119 Shenandoah Dr) on 10/09/20 and charged him with Aggravated Assault, Simple Possession, and Convicted Felon in Possession of a Handgun in reference to a disturbance at Roan/Mountcastle at 7:41 am.
After that incident the JCPD Criminal Investigations Division conducted additional follow ups and determined that the firearm used in the assault was stolen from a vehicle in the 400 block of E. Unaka Ave earlier that same day. Mr. Grindstaff was also found to be in possession of other property linking him to other auto burglaries in that same area. Investigators also discovered evidence that Mr. Grindstaff fired the weapon multiple times after he stole it, one round of which hit an occupied residence located on the 400 block of E. Holston Ave.
As a result, Mr. Grindstaff was charged with three counts of Burglary Motor Vehicle, two counts of Theft Under $1,000, one count of Attempted Theft under $1,000, and three counts of Reckless Endangerment. He is being housed in the Washington County Detention Center in lieu of a combined bond of $48,000. He is scheduled for Arraignment in General Sessions Court on 10/12/20 at 1:30 pm.
