Chief Karl Turner is pleased to announce the promotion of Lieutenant Mitch Perry to the rank of Captain, effective October 12, 2018.

“The Johnson City police Department conducted the arduous promotional process this summer to select a candidate for the rank of captain from within the department,” said Chief Turner. “The Johnson City Police Department is very fortunate to have candidates who possess excellent leadership and management skills and are dedicated to serving their community. I commend each of the participating officers for their hard work and their commitment to the department’s mission.”

Captain Perry holds a Bachelor of Science degree from East Tennessee State University with a major in Criminal Justice and a minor in Law enforcement. Captain Perry has 37 years of experience in law enforcement serving with the Carter County Sheriff’s Office, East Tn. State University Public Safety Department, and the Goodlettsville TN. Police Department before His employment with Johnson City Police Department in 1991. Captain Perry has served the Police Department in a number of capacities: as a Lieutenant and Assistant watch Commander, Platoon Sergeant, Community Policing Sergeant, C.I.T. liaison, Field Training Officer, and Public Safety Officer. Captain Perry is a graduate of the Southeastern Command and Leadership Academy (S.E.C.L.A.), were he received the academic award. Captain Perry also graduated from the Municipal Management Academy I, II, and III. Captain Perry will serve as the Watch Commander for Platoon 1.
