SUBJECT: False Bomb Report DATE: 03/19/17 TIME: 4:30 a.m.
PREPARED BY: Officer Mike McIntosh APPROVED BY: Sergeant Reggie Sparks
On 03/18/17, officers of the Johnson City Police Department arrested Claude P Smith (915 N. North St, 43 years old) and charged him with making a False Bomb Report.
At approximately 1:30 am, officers responded to Numan’s bar, 225 E. Main St, after they called 911 to report they had received a bomb threat from a male, at 1:06am. Numan’s employees advised the male told them he had placed 4 pounds of C4 explosives inside the bar and it would detonate in 24hrs. While officers were at Numan’s, 911 reported they had received calls from a male, stating the bomb would detonate in 48 hours. He called another time and stated the bomb would detonate in one hour and he had also placed a bomb at Capone's Bar.
Washington County Emergency Dispatchers were able to trace the cell phone call to 915 N. North St., where officers responded and found Smith sitting on the couch of the residence. At his side, officers found the phone used to make the bomb threats. Officers also listened to the 911 calls and concluded the voice appeared to be that of Smith.
Smith was placed under arrest and transported to the Washington County Detention Center, where he is being held in lieu of a $20,000 bond. Arraignment is set for 03/20/17 at 1:30 p.m. in Washington County General Session Court.
