On March 18, 2017 at about 11:55 am., officers of the Johnson City Police Department responded to a vehicle crash with serious injury on Cherokee Rd. at Spice Hollow Rd. Upon arrival, officers found that a 2003 Toyota Tundra truck was going south on Cherokee Rd. just past Spice Hollow Rd. The vehicle left the roadway to the left, struck a utility pole and went down an embankment, coming to a rest in a pasture. The driver, Steven Bennett, age 67, 2205 Dry Creek Rd., Johnson City, Tenn. received serious injuries from the crash and was transported to the Johnson City Medical Center Hospital where he is listed in critical condition. A six year old juvenile was a passenger in the vehicle and was uninjured. Both occupants were properly restrained by seat belts and child booster seat.
The investigation is continuing by the Johnson City Police Department Traffic Reconstruction Team.
