On 1/30/2017 officers of the Johnson City Police Department arrested Jonathan R. Pearson (36 years old, 508 Colony Court, Gray TN) on the charges of False Reporting, Simple Possession of Schedule II (Cocaine), Driving on Suspended License 1st, Failure to Comply with Financial Responsibility, and Texting While Driving.

Officers responded to the scene of a single vehicle crash at N. Roan St. and Bristol Highway where a vehicle crossed opposing lanes of traffic, left the roadway, and struck a light pole and building.  The driver deliberately attempted to mislead and misdirect police during the investigation by providing false information in stating that he was a passenger in the vehicle and that the driver fled the scene.  Through witnesses, officers were able to determine this individual, identified as Pearson, was the driver at the time of the crash, and there were no other parties involved.  He then confessed to driving and stated he was texting while driving, causing the crash.   Further investigation revealed the defendant was driving on a suspended North Carolina driver’s license and that he also did not have current proof of insurance.  During a search, approximately 3.2 grams of a white powder was discovered on the defendant’s person, which tested positive for cocaine.

Mr. Pearson was placed under arrest and transported to the Washington County Detention Center where he is being held in lieu of a $7,000 bond.  His arraignment is set for 1/31/17 at 1:30pm in Washington County General Sessions Court.
