SUBJECT: False Reporting DATE: 01/22/17 TIME: 08:25 a.m.
PREPARED BY: Officer A. Murray APPROVED BY: Lt. Billy Church
On 01/21/17 officers of the Johnson City Police Department arrested 18 year old Austin Seeley, 111Woodbriar Rd, Johnson City, and 20 year old Mark Karluah, 512 Swadley Rd, Johnson City, and charged both with filing a false police report.
At approximately 3:25 p.m., officers responded to the area of the Mall, 2011 N. Roan St., in reference to a reported strong armed robbery. Upon arrival officers met with Mr. Seeley and Mr. Karluah who reported they had just been robbed of over $700.00 by a group of males. The investigation revealed Mr. Seeley had reported a similar theft the previous night involving the same individuals involved in this reported disturbance. Mr. Seeley failed to divulge any of this information to responding officers. After further investigation, and according to witness testimony, it was determined that no robbery occurred and this reported disturbance was actually an effort of Mr. Seeley and Mr. Karluah to retrieve stolen money from the previous night.
Both Mr. Seeley and Mr. Karluah were arrested and charged with Filing a False Report. Both were then transported to the Washington County Detention Center, where they each are being held in lieu of a $5,000 bond. An arraignment is scheduled for 01/23/17, 1:30 pm, in Washington County General Sessions Court.
