On 5/1/14, Investigators of the Johnson City Police Department arrested Ateela E. McClain (1444 E. Lakeview Dr., Johnson City TN., 28 years old) charging her with Child Abuse and Neglect.
An investigation was initiated by the Johnson City Police Department and the Department of Children's Services following the report of a physical assault against an eight (8) year old male. The investigation revealed that the child had multiple contusions on his legs, arms and back. The child disclosed that his mother, Ateela E. McClain, had struck him with a plastic coat hanger. Ms. McClain admitted that she had in fact assaulted the child as described as a means of discipline. McClain is charged with one count of Felony, (based on the age of the child), Child Abuse Neglect.
McClain was transported to the Washington County Detention Center where she is being held in lieu of a $5,000 bond. Arraignment is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on 5/2/14 in Washington County General Sessions Court.
