On March 23, 2014, Investigators with the Johnson City Police Department arrested a Johnson City, Tennessee man in connection with an early morning downtown shooting. Arrested was Jamarcus Lavelle Jackson, 3/23/1990 of 1211 Kingsprings Road, Johnson City, Tennessee. This arrest stems from an investigation into an early morning disturbance in the Cherry Street parking lot in Johnson City where numerous gunshots were fired that resulted in multiple people receiving injuries and one succumbing to those injuries. Jackson is charged with one count of Second Degree Murder for the unlawful killing of DeShaun Wesley Greer, 10/28/1989 of 1412 East Cedar Street, Bristol, Virginia. Jamarcus Jackson is also facing charges of Attempted Second Degree Murder for the attempted unlawful killing of Jamison Lewis Greer,8/20/1993 also of 1412 East Center Street, Bristol, Virginia; Aggravated Assault for the inflicting of injury with a deadly weapon on a Zachary Breedlove, 4/4/1990 of 159 Alfalfa Lane, Jonesborough, Tennessee and Reckless Endangerment for his reckless activity of discharging a firearm that resulted in an injury to Jonathan McInturff, 12/24/1986 of 944 Larry Mills Lane #1, Kingsport, Tennessee. Jackson was also charged with the Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by a Convicted Felon for previous felony convictions in the State of Tennessee. At the time of his arrest, Jamarcus Jackson was found to be in possession of a Schedule VI drug (marijuana) and charged with Simple Possession.
Jamarcus Lavelle Jackson was arrested and transported to the Washington County Detention Center in lieu of a $200,000.00 bond. An arraignment will be held in the General Sessions Court of Washington County, Tennessee on Monday, March 24, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. The investigation is continuing.
On March 23, 2014, officers of the Johnson City Police Department were summons to the Cherry Street parking lot located in the downtown area at the State of Franklin Road and Cherry Street intersection. Upon arriving, officers found a large group of people involved in a commotion. After restoring peace, officers found that two males were in the parking lot suffering from gunshot wounds. Officers also were pointed to a male subject that had been detained by bystanders as being the person involved in the shooting.
At this time, the Johnson City Police Department is able to confirm that there was a shooting at the Cherry Street parking lot and that we have multiple victims with at least one dying from the wounds suffered from the shooting. Investigators are interviewing witnesses and one person of interest at this time. No names are being released at this time pending notification of next of kin. More information will be released later in the day.
