On 12/08/2020, the Johnson City Police Department arrested 36 year old Mary Smith of 4125 Timberlake Rd. in
Johnson City and charged her with one count of Theft of Property, one count of Possession without Prescription,
and one count of Simple Possession/Casual Exchange.
The arrest is the result of an investigation into a shoplifting at Belk, 2011 N. Roan St. Loss prevention employees
observed that Ms. Smith had concealed a large amount of merchandise and called police. After police arrival, a loss
prevention employee made contact with her as she had exited the business. Further investigation revealed that
Ms. Smith had concealed items in the amount of $1,639.50. It was also revealed that she had prescription drugs in
her possession without a prescription.
Ms. Smith was placed under arrest and transported to the Washington County Detention Center where she is being
held inlieu of a $7,000 bond. Arraignment is set for 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, 12/09/2020 in Washington County
General Sessions Court.
