Johnson City Police Department (JCPD) has partnered with the Tennessee Highway Safety Office (THSO) to place additional officers on the streets this Thanksgiving to be on the lookout for impaired drivers. The Tennessee Highway Safety Office conveyed a grant providing overtime funding for Johnson City officers to conduct these DUI enforcement patrols throughout the year aimed at removing impaired drivers from the road.
The Johnson City Police Department reminds everyone that buzzed driving is drunk driving. Getting behind the wheel after even just one too many drinks can lead to disaster. Tennessee’s legal blood alcohol concentration (BAC) limit is .08, but even a slight alcoholic “buzz” below that legal threshold can be unsafe for drivers and lead to their arrest for impaired driving.
During last year’s Thanksgiving Day holiday, beginning Wednesday and ending Sunday, JCPD arrested eight (8) motorists suspected of driving while impaired. Johnson City Police Department will host these high visibility DUI patrols to discourage the number of potentially impaired drivers on city roadways this weekend, helping to ensure the roads are as safe as possible for everyone to enjoy their holiday.
Grant is funded by the Tennessee Highway Safety Office.
