On 4/18/2019, officers of the Johnson City Police Department arrested James L. East (867 Carters Valley Road, 49 years old) and charged him with Possession of Methamphetamine for resale, Simple possession Sch. VI, Possession of stolen property, Possession of a firearm during the commission/attempt to commit a dangerous felony, and being a Convicted felon in possession of a handgun.
At approximately 7:57 a.m., officers responded to a man down call at McDonald’s, 6709 Bristol Highway. Officers made contact with James East. During the investigation, Mr. East consented to a search of his person and vehicle. Officers discovered a sum of cash totaling $4,118, 229 grams of methamphetamine, 19 grams of marijuana, multiple pills of unknown origin, and unlawful drug paraphernalia. In addition, officers discovered 2 handguns, one of which was stolen out of Kingsport, Tennessee. Mr. East has multiple felony convictions in his criminal history.
Mr. East was placed under arrest and was transported to the Sullivan County Detention Center. Arraignment is set for 9:00 a.m. on 4/22/2019 in Sullivan County General Sessions Court.
