On 01/19/2019, officers of the Johnson City Police Department arrested Jose L. Garcia-Figueroa (3500 W Market St #41, Johnson City, TN 37604: 42 years old) and charged him with Aggravated Assault and Simple Assault.
At approximately 07:20 p.m., Mr. Garcia-Figueroa was involved in an altercation outside his room at the 11-E Motel (3500 W Market St). During the altercation, Mr. Garcia-Figueroa slapped his wife, Peggy Gladfelter, and stabbed his brother-in-law, Curvin Laughman, in the back of the neck with a pocket knife. Mr. Laughman sustained non-life threatening injuries and was treated at the Johnson City Medical Center. Mr. Garcia-Figueroa initially fled the scene on foot but was later apprehended outside 3406 W Market St (Park N Stay) without incident.
Mr. Garcia-Figueroa was placed under arrest and transported to the Washington County Detention Center, where he was held on a $51,000 bond. His arraignment hearing is set for 01/22/2019 at 01:30 pm in Washington County General Sessions Court.
