On 11/24/2018 Officers of the Johnson City Police Department arrested Troy S. Avery (No Address Available, 49 years old) and charged him with 2 counts of Aggravated Assault, Criminal Trespass, and Shoplifting under $1000.

At 9:20 P.M. officers responded to 308 N. Broadway St. (Liquor World) in reference to a disturbance involving a black male who was later identified as Troy S. Avery. Avery had fled the scene prior to officers arrival and the complainant, who is also a victim, stated that Avery had become disruptive after she had refused to sell him an alcoholic beverage due to his current intoxication. Officers searched the immediate area but could not locate Avery. 911 Dispatch advised that the complainant had called again stating that Avery had returned to Liquor World. Officers again met with the complainant who stated that upon Avery’s return to the business, he began a verbal altercation and began to approach her and another victim. Both victims stated multiple times for Avery to leave the property but he became more belligerent which resulted in the complainant pepper spraying him. After this, Avery proceeded to pull out a knife and charge at the victims but was stopped by a customer who convinced him to leave. Avery was located at 408 N. Broadway St. (Roadrunner Market) where officers identified him based on camera footage from Liquor World and the description provided by the victims.  Upon searching Avery, a knife was found in his possession along with multiple merchandise items.  It was found Avery had also shoplifted from the Roadrunner Market prior officers locating him.  Avery was placed under arrest and transported to the Washington County Detention Center in lieu of a $42,000 bond. Arraignment is set for 1:30 P.M. on 11/26/2018 in Washington County General Sessions Court.
