PREPARED BY: | Sgt. Mike Adams/550 | APPROVED BY: | Lt. Kevin Peters |
On Christmas morning, 2016, at approximately 0730am, a CAT mini-excavator was stolen from Summers-Taylor Construction Company at the old General Mills site. Investigators were able to gain video evidence that showed a dump truck and a flatbed trailer was used to haul the excavator away from the job site. The investigation led detectives to believe the excavator was taken to the Beech Mountain area of North Carolina. On 01/06/2017, while conducting surveillance with the cooperation of local authorities in Avery County, NC, detectives spotted the excavator being hauled on 19 E in NC on a flatbed trailer, by a different vehicle. The vehicle was stopped and the suspect was identified as Jeremy Clay Stout, 34, of 109 Mike Clawson Rd, Hampton, TN. Stout was taken into custody and charged with Theft of Property over $10,000 and Vandalism over $1000. He waived his extradition rights and was transported to the Washington County Detention Facility where he is being held in lieu of a $20,000 bond with arraignment set for Monday, January 9th, 2017 at 9:00am in the General Sessions Court of Washington County.
