On 11/19/2016 officers of the Johnson City Police Department arrested Jonathan Buckner, 34 years old, 76 Harley Dr. Marshall, NC and Dena Banks, 33 years old, 264 Dillingham Rd. Barnardsville, NC.
On 11/19/2016 at approximately 8:30 PM, officers responded to a shoplifting call at Belk, 2011 N Roan St. Mr. Buckner and Ms. Banks attempted to exit the store with unpaid merchandise. When they were stopped by a loss prevention employee from Belk, Mr. Buckner displayed a handgun and both individuals then fled the scene.
A short time later, a Tennessee State Trooper located the suspects’ vehicle and they were taken into custody during the subsequent traffic stop.
Mr. Buckner is charged with aggravated assault and shoplifting and is being held in the Washington County Detention Center on a $21,000 bond. Ms. Banks is charged with shoplifting and possession of tools to interfere with anti-theft devices and is being held in the Washington County Detention Center on a $2,000 bond. Both suspects are scheduled to be arraigned on 11/21/2016 at 9:00 AM in Washington County Sessions Court.
