On 11/29/15 at approximately 1520 hours, officers of the Johnson City Police Department arrested James Boardwine, 36 years of age, of 116 W. Walnut Street, Johnson City, TN, and charged him with Theft of Property over $1,000 (Possession of a Stolen Vehicle), Burglary, Driving on a Revoked License, Resisting Arrest, and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Also arrested was Angela Malcaluso, 41 years of age, of 322 Kites Private Drive, Bristol, TN, who was charged with Theft of Property over $1,000 (Possession of a Stolen Vehicle).
The arrests occurred after officers received a report at approximately 1500 hours that a subject had attempted to break into a vehicle on the parking lot of Toys R Us, 1910 N. Roan Street. The victim, who was in the back seat of her vehicle tending to an infant at the time of the incident, was able to provide officers with a description of the suspect and the vehicle he was driving. A short time later, officers observed the suspect vehicle traveling through The Mall parking lot and attempted to stop the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle, later identified as Mr. Boardwine, stopped the vehicle and fled on foot into The Mall where he was apprehended by officers with the help of a concerned citizen. The passenger in the suspect vehicle, Ms. Malcaluso, remained in the vehicle and was immediately taken into custody.
The vehicle driven by Mr. Boardwine and occupied by Ms. Malcaluso during the auto burglary was discovered to be stolen from 103 Sequoyah Drive, Johnson City, on the morning of 11/20/2015. Inside the vehicle, officers located a Carhartt jacket belonging to Mr. Boardwine that contained two hypodermic needles and a glass pipe with burned residue. A records check of Mr. Boardwine’s drivers license revealed them to be revoked.
Both Mr. Boardwine and Ms. Malcaluso were transported to the Washington County Detention Center where they were being held in lieu of $23,000 and $10,000 bonds, respectively. Both are scheduled to appear in General Sessions Court on 11/30/15 at 1330 hours to be arraigned.
