On 11/14/2015 at approximately 1015 hours officers of the Johnson City Police Department arrested Joseph C Griffith, 31 yoa, of 404 W Chilhowie Ave, Johnson City, TN charging him with Motor Vehicle Theft, Theft of Property, Driving on Revoked License, and Leaving the Scene of an accident. Officers responded to the area of E Maple St & Division St in reference to a disturbance. Upon arrival officers spoke with a few witnesses that stated the suspect had left the scene in a blue Toyota Matrix that was stolen. The vehicle was then located in the parking lot of WJHL and upon contacting the owner, it was determined that it was in fact stolen. The vehicle owner stated that she last saw her vehicle the previous date at 10:00pm in her driveway. Property left inside the vehicle was also missing, and the vehicle had also been involved in a crash since it had been taken. The suspect was located in the area on foot by officers.
The suspect was then placed under arrest and transported to the Washington County Detention Center where they were being held in lieu of a 15,000 bond. The suspect is scheduled to appear in General Sessions Court on 11/16/15 at 1330 hours to be arraigned.
