On May 14, 2015, officers of the Johnson City Police Department arrested Darren T. Scott (General Delivery, 28 years old) and Shawna L. Ray (General Delivery, 26 years old). Scott was charged with two counts of Aggravated Assault, one count of Theft of Property (over $500.00), one count of Theft of Property (less than $500.00) and Evading Arrest by Motor Vehicle. Ray is charged with one count of Theft of Property (over $500.00).
The arrest is the result of an investigation into shoplifting incidents that occurred at the Belk Department Store on May 10 and May 12. During the incident on May 12, Scott brandished a knife at two loss prevention agents in an attempt to flee from prosecution. Scott later refused commands to stop by responding patrol officers and fled in a motor vehicle.
Scott and Ray were transported to the Washington County Detention Center where they are being held in lieu of a $36,000.00 and $6,000.00 bond. They are scheduled for arraignment in Washington County General Sessions Court on May 15, 2015 at 1:30 PM.
