On 08/03/2019 at 10:42 a.m., Officers of the Johnson City Police Department arrested Paula McElreath, 55 years old, General Delivery Johnson City TN. Ms. McElreath is charged with Aggravated Assault Domestic.

Officers of the Johnson City Police Department responded to 2805 Walnut St. in reference to an assault that had occurred several days prior. Upon investigating it was discovered that Ms. McElreath had gotten into an argument with the victim. When the victim attempted to leave, Ms. McElreath displayed a weapon and threatened the victim with it before shoving and grabbing the victim. She was found after returning to the victim’s residence and taken into custody.

Ms. McElreath is being held in the Washington County Detention Center lieu of a $10,000 bond awaiting arraignment in Washington County General Sessions Court on Monday 08/05/2019 at 1:30 p.m.

On 8/4/2019, officers of the Johnson City Police Department arrested James A. Bradley (608 Cranberry St., 34 years old) and charged him with Aggravated Burglary and Simple Domestic Assault.

 

At approximately 6:15 A.M., officers were called to 512 Swadley Rd. #B11 in reference to a subject that had broken through a window to enter the residence. Upon arrival officers made contact with the victim and Mr. Bradley standing outside of the apartment. Upon speaking with the victim she stated that Bradley had been at her residence throughout the night attempting to make contact with her. The victim stated that Bradley then broke through her bedroom window and entered her room where a physical altercation ensued. The victim was able to escape from Bradley and contact 911 Dispatch.

 

Bradley was taken into custody at that time and transported to the Washington County Detention Center where he is being held in lieu of a $21,000 bond. Arraignment is set for 1:30 P.M. on 8/5/2019 in Washington County General Sessions Court.

On 08/04/19, officers of the Johnson City Police Department arrested Constance White (25 yrs old, 907 Antioch Rd, Johnson City) and charged her with theft of property over $2,500, convicted felon in possession of a firearm, and driving on a revoked license.

On 07/31/19, a victim reported that their 2008 Honda Element was stolen from 704 Rolling Hills Dr. in Johnson City.

On 08/04/19, officers saw the stolen vehicle in the 600 block of Pardee St. in Johnson City. Officers conducted a traffic stop and identified the driver as Constance White. White was the original suspect in the report filed on 07/31/19. A handgun was found in White’s purse when she was taken into custody. A records check showed that White was a convicted felon out of Washington County, TN. In March of 2018, she was convicted of theft of property over $1,000.

Constance White was taken into custody and transported to the Washington County Detention Center, where she is being held in lieu of a $21,000 bond.  She was scheduled for arraignment in Washington County General Sessions Court on 08/05/19 at 1:00 p.m.

On 08/07/19 at approximately 7:30 AM, officers of the Johnson City Police Department responded to a report of a shooting in the area of the 1200 block of King Springs Road.  Upon arrival, officers searched the area for a victim, possible crime scene, and suspects. No physical evidence was found.  A canvas of the neighborhood was conducted, and statements have been obtained from persons in the area as well as the original complainant. Some of these statements are conflicting in nature but Police have determined that at least two vehicles were in the area at the time two loud noises – possibly gunshots - were heard.

The Johnson City Police Department is requesting assistance from the public to identify a suspect in a theft case.

On 06/30/19, officers of the Johnson City Police Department responded to Cornerstone Village South in reference to theft. Officer’s met with a 92 year old resident that reported that someone rang her doorbell and stated that he was the grandson of another tenant. The suspect asked if he could come into the building to wait for his grandmother. The suspect was allowed to enter the victim’s apartment, but when he left she discovered items missing from her apartment, including a credit card. The victim’s credit card was later used by the same suspect at various stores in Johnson City.

Surveillance video was obtained and photos of the suspect are attached.

On 8/10/19, officers of the Johnson City Police Department arrested Jerry Greer (296 Brethren Church Dr. Jonesborough, 44 years old) and Toshie Bowman (296 Brethren Church Dr. Jonesborough, 45 years old) and charged them each with theft over $2500.

At approximately 8:50 a.m. on 8/9/19, officers responded to Baily’s Heating and Air in reference to a theft that had occurred overnight. The business was able to provide video surveillance that showed an older model white pickup leaving the parking lot with an AC unit. On this date officers located a truck matching the description parked at the intersection of E. State of Franklin Rd. and Legion St.

Mr. Greer and Ms. Bowman were transported to the police headquarters for questioning. After questioning they were placed under arrest and transported to the Washington County Detention Center, where they are being held in lieu of a $10,000 bond. Arraignment is set for 1:30 p.m. on 8/12/19 in Washington County General Sessions Court.

    On 08/11/19 at approximately 7:10 pm., officers of the Johnson City Police Dept. responded to a motor vehicle crash with serious injury on N. Roan St. at Cambridgeshire Ct.   Upon arrival, officers found that a 2000 Harley Davidson motorcycle was traveling south on N. Roan St. and had collided with a 2002 Chevrolet Suburban that was attempting to turn left onto N. Roan St. from Cambridgeshire Ct.  The driver of the Harley Davidson motorcycle, J.D. Nickels from Johnson City, age 36, received serious injuries and was transported to the Johnson City Medical Center Hospital where he is listed in critical condition.  The driver of the Chevy Suburban, Ivan Pickle from Johnson City, age 60, was not injured in the crash.  The investigation is being conducted by the Johnson City Police Department Traffic Crash Reconstruction Team.

On 08/12/19, Officers of the Johnson City Police Department arrested Holly B Frye (606 Countryshire Ct., Kingsport, TN, 37663, 40 years old) and charged her with Possession of a Stolen  Vehicle, Felony Possession of Methamphetamine, Drug Paraphernalia, and Simple Possession.

The arrest is due to an incident which occurred on 8/11/2019 at 1908 E Unaka Ave., Roadrunner Market. During the incident Officers saw the defendant sleeping inside a black Mercedes within the parking lot of the listed business. Officers checked the defendant and discovered that she was in possession of a stolen vehicle reported out of Johnson City on 8/11/19. An inventory of the vehicle revealed that the defendant was in possession of 3.2 grams of Methamphetamine, 3 Oxycodone pills, 7 syringes, a pipe, and a spoon used in drug preparation. The defendant is being held at the Washington County Detention Center on a total bond of $20,000.00 She is scheduled to appear in General Sessions Court on 8/13/2019 at 1:30pm.

On 8/12/2019, officers of the Johnson City Police Department arrested Seth Blevins (288 Cripple Creek Loop, Watauga, TN 23 years old) and charged him with felony evading arrest, driving on a suspended license, and operating an unregistered vehicle.

At approximately 12:00, officers attempted a traffic stop on Blevins on W. Market St. for driving an unregistered vehicle.  He continued driving until ultimately fleeing on foot into a convenience store, where he was apprehended with the aid of witnesses at the store, who along with video surveillance, identified Blevins as the driver.

Blevins was transported to Washington County Detention Center, where he was held on a $5,000 bond.  Arraignment was set for 1:30 p.m. 8/12/2019 in Washington County General Sessions Court.

On 8/11/2019, officers of the Johnson City Police Department arrested Shania Orfield (1608 C. St. Kingsport, TN 25 years old) and charged her with possession of stolen property (over $1,000) and criminal impersonation.

At approximately 9:15 p.m., officers located a vehicle that had been reported stolen out of Kingsport, TN at 2700 W. Market St. (Johnson Inn).  The investigation led to a room where Orfield was located.  After the information she gave officers was determined to be false, she was taken into custody for criminal impersonation in addition to active warrants out of Sullivan County.  Further evidence discovered tied Orfield to the vehicle.

 On 8/13/29, officers of the Johnson City Police Department arrested Austin L. Sheets (917 Pine Ridge Cir, Elizabethton, TN, 26 years old) and charged him with felony possession of methamphetamine for resale.

At approximately 2:45 a.m., officers initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle for failure to obey a traffic control device (red light). Officers identified Mr. Sheets as the driver of the vehicle, who then advised that his license was revoked. Officers asked for consent to search Sheets’ vehicle and ultimately discovered 30.21 grams of a clear crystalline substance believed to be methamphetamine, .73 grams of a white rocky substance believed to be crack cocaine, and less than a gram of marijuana. Additionally, officers located baggies, a digital scale, a glass pipe, four marijuana roaches, and a pair of brass knuckles.

Mr. Sheets claimed ownership of the items inside and admitted to knowing they were within the vehicle. Mr. Sheets was placed under arrest and ultimately charged with Failure to Obey a Traffic Control Device, Driving on a Revoked License, Simple Possession of Schedules II and VI, Felony Possession of Methamphetamine for Resale, and a Weapons Law violation. Mr. Sheets was transported to the Washington County Detention Center where he is being held on a $14,000 bond. Arraignment is set for 1:30 p.m. on 8/14/19 in Washington County General Sessions Court.

On 08/11/19 at approximately 7:10 pm., officers of the Johnson City Police Dept. responded to a motor vehicle crash with serious injury on N. On 08/09/19, the Johnson City Police Department arrested Quanardel Latez Wells Jr (1638 Millers Chapel Rd Greenville, TN, age 26) and charged him with  especially aggravated robbery.

On 07/19/19, officers responded to the dead end of Traders Walk where the 911 caller said a male subject was yelling for help. Officers located the male laying on the pavement with an apparent gunshot wound to his leg. He was transported to the hospital by EMS. During the investigation, the victim said that he met with the suspect to buy marijuana from him. The victim was picked up by a silver SUV with a light skinned female driver, a heavyset black male, and Quanardel Latez Wells Jr.  After the victim gets in the vehicle they drove off and the victim asked where they were going.  Quanardel Wells then pulled a gun and started hitting the victim in the face. The vehicle drove to the dead end of Traders Walk where the victim was robbed and shot in the leg. He was pushed out of the vehicle and the vehicle fled the area.

Quanardel Latez Wells Jr was transported to the Washington County Detention Center, where he was being held in lieu of a $30,000 bond. Arraignment was set for 1:30 p.m. on 08/12/19 in Washington County General Sessions Court.

On August 15th 2019 at 01:49 pm, Officers of the Johnson City Police Department arrested Lynden Joel Crumley, 26 year old male, 123 W Millard St, Johnson City, TN 37604. Mr. Crumley was charged with one count of aggravated Assault.

The arrest stems from Officers responding to the John Sevier center due to a subject threatening another with a knife. The investigation revealed that Mr. Crumley allegedly threatened another male while brandishing a knife. The victim used his bicycle to block Mr. Crumley who attempted to cut him. The victim was able to flee the area and contact E911 before being injured.

Mr. Crumley is currently being held at the Washington County Detention Center on a $5,000 bond, with an arraignment set for August 15th 2019 at 10:30 am

On 08/16/19, the Johnson City Police Department arrested Tommy Nelson (32 yrs. old, 324 Race St. Elizabethton) and charged him with Auto Theft and Evading Arrest.

On 07/27/19, officers of the Johnson City Police Department attempted to stop a vehicle driven by Tommy Nelson in the 1700 block of Orlando Dr., but he fled from officers. A warrant was obtained for his arrest.

On 07/28/19, officers of the Johnson City Police Department responded to a motor vehicle theft that occurred at the Roadrunner, located at 2810 W Walnut St. While the victim went into the store, Tommy Nelson stole the vehicle. A warrant was obtained for his arrest.

On 08/16/19, Tommy Nelson was apprehended after a pursuit was initiated by the Tennessee Highway Patrol.  Nelson was a passenger in a vehicle that fled from THP.  The vehicle was stopped and the occupants apprehended in Elizabethton. 

Tommy Nelson was taken into custody on existing warrants for Auto Theft over $2,500 and Evading Arrest, and transported to the Washington County Detention Center.  He is being held in the Washington County Detention Center in lieu of a combined bond of $15,000.  He is scheduled for Arraignment in General Sessions Court on 08/16/19 at 10:30 am.

On 08/16/19, the Johnson City Police Department arrested Thomas Addison Levan (410 Oliver Approach Johnson City, TN, age 19) charging him with  Especially Aggravated Robbery.

On 07/26/19, officers responded to the Johnson City Medical Center on an assault that occurred on Hazel St in Johnson City. Officers spoke with the victim and she said that she was contacted by a friend, Thomas Levan, whom she hadn’t seen in a long time. She said that Thomas Levan asked her if she wanted to meet. She said that Thomas came over to her apartment. She approached his vehicle, then Thomas grabbed her wallet out of her hand and started backing up the vehicle as she reached into the car to get her wallet back causing her to fall to the pavement. Thomas then drove into the parking spaces where she was laying and struck her with his vehicle.

Thomas Addison Levan was transported to the Washington County Detention Center, where he is being held in lieu of a $50,000 bond. Arraignment is set for 1:30 p.m. on 08/19/19 in Washington County General Sessions Court.

On 8/17/19, the Johnson City Police Department arrested Coty Lee Arnold (31, 1112 King Springs Rd #3) on charges related to an aggravated assault and reckless endangerment.

At approximately 9:00 a.m., JCPD officers responded to 1112 King Springs Rd #3, in reference to a male firing a gun inside the apartment. After further investigation it was found that the suspect Coty Arnold was under the influence of methamphetamine and had fired one round from a Ruger .22 revolver inside the apartment. As officers secured the scene, the suspect came out of the apartment while holding the revolver to his head. After approximately ninety minutes of negotiation, the suspect surrendered to law enforcement.

0n 8/17/2019, Arnold was arrested on charges of Aggravated Assault (Domestic), Reckless Endangerment, Felon in Possession of a handgun and Possession of Stolen Property. He was subsequently booked into Washington County Detention Center in lieu of a $46,000 bond and is scheduled for arraignment on 8/19/2019 at 1:30 p.m. in Washington County Sessions Court.

The Johnson City Police Department is proud to announce the promotion of Inv. Matt Gryder to the rank of Sergeant.  Sgt. Gryder has been employed by the Johnson City Police Department since 1999.   He was most recently assigned as a Task Force Officer with the Federal Bureau of Investigation where he was a member of the Safe Streets Task Force.  The Safe Streets Task Force investigates violent crime in the Eastern District of Tennessee and has been responsible for incarcerating numerous violent criminals. 

Sgt. Gryder has also served as a Patrol Officer, a Master Police Officer, and as a Field Training Officer during his tenure with the police department.  Sgt. Gryder will be assigned to the Criminal Investigations Division where he will oversee a squad of Investigators.

On 8/15/19 at 5:52 p.m., officers of the Johnson City Police Department arrested 30 year old Joshua Hoffman, 110 Wilson Ave., and charged him with theft of property over $2,500 (motor vehicle) and driving on a revoked license. 

 

The arrest was made after an officer observed a stolen Subaru Outback traveling on I-26 in Johnson City.  A traffic stop was initiated and Mr. Hoffman was identified as the driver of the vehicle.  A records check also revealed Mr. Hoffman was driving on a revoked license stemming from a prior arrest. 

 

Mr. Hoffman was arrested and transported to the Washington County Detention Center where he was booked in under an $11,000 bond.  A preliminary hearing will be scheduled in Washington County General Sessions Court.

On 8/19/19, Officers of the Johnson City Police Department arrested Tanesha M Taylor (31 years old, 141 E. Market St, Apt 413, Johnson City, TN) and charged her with Aggravated Assault, Theft under $1000 dollars, Vandalism, and Resisting Arrest.                                                                     

 The arrest was the result of an investigation into a shoplifting incident at Dollar General Store, 1121 N. Roan St. At 11:27 am, officers began an investigation into a shoplifting  from the business. The investigation revealed Ms. Taylor left the business with 38 items of merchandise, valued at $173 dollars. A store clerk attempted to stop Ms. Taylor bus she refused to stay on the premises. Ms. Taylor placed all merchandise into her vehicle and intentionally backed her vehicle towards the store clerk. The vehicle struck a grocery cart, causing it to strike the store clerk. Ms. Taylor was located in the parking lot of the John Sevier Center, standing outside her vehicle. She was observed placing the stolen items into trash bags. After a brief struggle, she was taken into custody. 

She was transported to the Washington County Detention Center without incident. Her Bond was set at 5,000 dollars. A hearing is set for 1:30pm. on Tuesday August 20th in Washington County General Sessions Court.
