On Wednesday, April 17, 2013 Brittany L Oja, W/F, 22, 436 Bay St, Mt Carmel, TN was arrested by officers of the Johnson City Police Department and charged with speeding, no insurance, possession of schedule VI controlled substance- for resale, possession of schedule I controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. The arrest is the result of a traffic stop after the vehicle she was driving was observed traveling west bound on E Main St near Hilltop Rd at a high rate of speed. During the stop, a strong odor of marijuana was detected from within her vehicle; subsequently, four (4) separate packages of a leafy green substance preliminarily identified as marijuana, totaling approximately 2 ¾ ounces, were found in her vehicle. A baggie containing a small amount of a brownish residue was later found in one of her purses. The substance tested positive for heroin, a schedule I controlled substance, in a field test kit. Three (3) glass pipes used to smoke illegal narcotics, a digital scale and rolling papers were also located in the vehicle, along with $1,074 cash which was found in her change purse. Oja was then placed in custody and transported to the Washington County Detention Center without incident where she is being held in lieu of a $12,000 bond. She is scheduled to appear in General Sessions Court on April 18, 2013 at 1:45pm. The $1,074 cash and vehicle were seized.
