On 10/14/2020 officers of the Johnson City Police Department arrested Brian L. Abel and charged him with Aggravated Assault (Domestic), Unlawful Passing on Left, Evading Arrest, Resisting Arrest, and Improper Display of Registration.
On 10/14/2020 at approximately 5:50 PM, officers responded to 714 E. Watauga Ave. in reference to a domestic disturbance. Officers observed a gray Nissan Sentra fleeing the scene upon arrival and witnessed the vehicle pass another vehicle in the oncoming lane of traffic on E. Myrtle Ave. Officers located the vehicle in a dead end alleyway off Wall St., occupied by Mr. Abel. Abel refused to comply with verbal commands from officers and fled on foot. After a brief foot pursuit, Abel was taken into custody on E. Watauga Ave. As officers were taking him into custody, Abel resisted officers attempts to handcuff him. Officers went back to the listed residence and spoke to the victim who is a family member. An investigation revealed Abel had threatened physical bodily harm to the victim with a gardening tool but then fled the scene when officers arrived.
Mr. Abel was transported to the Washington County Detention Center where he is being held in lieu of a $7,000 bond. Arraignment is set for 10/15/2020 at 1:30 p.m. in Washington County General Sessions Court.
