On 5/22/20, officers of the Johnson City Police Department arrested James Tipton (5212 Bobby Hicks Hwy., 30 years old) and charged him with Burglary.

At approximately 5:45 p.m., officers were dispatched to 3111 Browns Mill Rd (Walmart), in reference to a shoplifting. While at Walmart on a separate investigation, officers were flagged down by loss prevention officers on a shoplifting that was in progress. Loss Prevention Officer stated the suspect, later identified as Mr. Tipton, had taken a bar code off of one item and placed it on a more expensive item. Mr. Tipton then rang the more expensive item with the wrong barcode. Mr. Tipton also took tape, a reflector and light up pods passed the point of sale without paying for the correct items. After escorting Mr. Tipton to the loss prevention office, it was found that he had been previously trespassed from the business on 5/12/17, 02/05/19 and 3/7/19. It was also found that he had a prior conviction for shoplifting from Walmart.

Mr. Tipton was placed under arrest and transported to the Washington County Detention Center, where he is currently being held in lieu of a $3,000 bond.  Arraignment is set for 1:30 p.m. on 5/26/20 in Washington County General Sessions Court.
