On 07/12/19, officers of the Johnson City Police Department arrested Caleb Jones (806 Hamilton St. Johnson City TN, 22 years old) and charged him with Attempted Auto Theft, Vandalism, Simple Assault, and Public Intoxication.
At approximately 7:51 p.m., officers responded to the area of University Parkway & Franklin St. in reference to an attempted motor vehicle theft in progress. The victim stated he observed the suspect laying in the road so he stopped to check on him. When he got out of his vehicle, the suspect chased him, jumped on his vehicle which damaged the windshield, and attempted to steal his vehicle, however he could not drive a vehicle with manual shift transmission. Officers then arrived on scene and took the suspect into custody without incident. The suspect admitted to smoking Salvia Divinorum, which causes hallucinations. The suspect was transported to the Johnson City Medical Center for treatment and taken into custody a few hours later after he was medically cleared.
Caleb Jones was then placed under arrest and transported to the Washington County Detention Center, where he is being held in lieu of a $12,500 bond. Arraignment is set for 9:00 a.m. on 07/15/19 in Washington County General Sessions Court.
