JCPD NEWS RELEASE
SUBJECT: | Felony Arrest | DATE: | 3/3/19 | TIME: | 10:00 P.M. |
PREPARED BY: | Inv. Joe Jaynes 601 | APPROVED BY: | Lt. Don Shepard |
On 3/3/19, the Johnson City Police Department arrested Samuel Yoakumah (1301 Seminole Dr. apt A4, 21 years old) and charged him with three counts of identity theft.
The arrest stems from a series of investigations related to electronic items being delivered to random addresses in Johnson City. Since Jan. 23, three different Johnson City residents claimed to have had deliveries or attempted deliveries of electronic items to their residence even though they themselves did not order them. The investigation showed that Mr. Yaokumah would claim the delivery was made to their house by mistake, or he would claim to be a resident of the house to the delivery driver. These items, which consisted of cell phones and computer tablets, were purchased fraudulently online.
On 3/3/19, Yaokumah was placed under arrest and transported to the Washington County Detention Center, where he is being held in lieu of a $21,000 bond. Arraignment is scheduled for 1:30 p.m., on 3/4/19, in Washington County General Sessions Court.
This investigation is ongoing and if any Johnson City resident has experienced a similar incident of having items delivered to your home that you did not order, please contact JCPD Criminal Investigations Division at 423-434-6166.
