The Johnson City Police and Fire Departments responded to a fire at the Park-n-Stay Inn, 3406 W. Market, at 6:47 am on 03/02/19. The mattress in room 118 had been set on fire. The room’s sole occupant, Jovaughny Edwards, (38 yrs old, 5013 Carolyn Ln Chattanooga, TN) advised he set the mattress ablaze in an attempt to get someone’s attention due to the fact he saw three individuals with guns attempting to make entry to his room. A review of the motel’s surveillance footage showed this did not occur. Mr. Edward’s actions caused severe structural damage to the hotel. After conferring with the District Attorney’s Office, Mr. Edwards was charged with Aggravated Arson and three counts of Felony Reckless Endangerment. He is being held in the Washington County Detention Center in lieu of an $80,000 bond. He is scheduled for arraignment in Washington County General Sessions Court on Monday 03/04/19 at 1:30 pm.
