SUBJECT: | Felony Arrest | DATE: | 01/16/2019 | TIME: | 2:30 PM |
PREPARED BY: | SRO Jon Dempsey #576 | APPROVED BY: | Captain Brian Rice |
On 01/16/2019, Officers of the Johnson City Police Department arrested a 13-year-old, male juvenile and charged him with the offense of carrying a weapon on school property. This arrest stems from a brief investigation by a School Resource Officer assigned to Liberty Bell Middle School, 718 Morningside Drive. A student approached the SRO with information concerning another student potentially possessing a weapon. The SRO immediately approached the juvenile and located a blank firing, replica firearm inside the student’s waistband. The juvenile was arrested and transported to the Johnson City Police Department where he was later cited and released into the custody of a parent. This is a great example of how SROs continually build meaningful bonds with students and how those bonds ultimately affect the continued safety and security of all students and staff within the Johnson City School System.
