On March 21, 2018, Officers of the Johnson City Police Department arrested Joshua Sutherland, 37, of Jonesborough, TN for Attempted Robbery.
At approximately 11:54 am, officers responded to 1102 W Market St, Mountain States Credit Union in reference to a reported robbery attempt. Officers located Sutherland still inside the Credit Union where he was taken into custody. It was determined through video footage and witness interviews that Sutherland came into the business and demanded a specific amount of money. Sutherland kept his hands in his jacket pockets which caused the tellers to fear he may have a weapon. Sutherland never claimed to have a weapon but continued to demand money from the bank. The teller refused to give the money and 911 was called by another employee. Sutherland never left the credit union even when told the police were called. Sutherland was taken into custody and transported to the Johnson City Police Department where he gave a confession to the attempted robbery. Sutherland was then transported to the Washington County Detention Center where he is being held in lieu of a $10,000 bond. Arraignment is set for March 22, 2018 at 1:30 pm in the General Sessions Court of Washington County.
