On January 27th, 2018, at 2:00 pm, Officers of the Johnson City Police Department arrested 42 year old Herbert W Shasteen , Johnson City, on 2 counts of Aggravated Assault. Dakota Shasteen, age 20, also of Johnson city, was also arrested and charged with Felony Reckless Endangerment. The arrests were a result of an investigation into a disturbance that began in front of 205 Hamilton St.
At approximately 1:51 pm, officers responded to 205 Hamilton St in reference to the occupants of a red Pontiac Firebird shouting and cursing at several residents, who were standing outside. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Dakota Shasteen, while the front seat passenger was identified as his father, Herbert Shasteen. According to witnesses, Dakota Shasteen operated the vehicle in a reckless manner, almost striking a 2-year-old male as he sped away from the scene. The residents of 205 Hamilton St. followed the vehicle to 303 Wilson Ave, at which time a heated argument ensued. Witnesses stated that Herbert Shasteen then grabbed a shovel and struck two males in the head, just prior to officers arriving on scene.
Both Herbert and Dakota Shasteen were arrested and transported to the Washington County Detention Center. Herbert Shasteen’s bond was set at $75,000 while Dakota Shasteen’s bond was set at $11,000. Both were scheduled to appear in Washington County General Sessions Court for arraignment on
January 29th, 2018, at 1:30pm. They are both currently held in the Washington County Detention Center.
