On 01/25/2017 at approximately 8:00 a.m., officers of the Johnson City Police Department arrested Fredrick L. Gist (486 High St, Spartanburg SC, 27 years old) and charged him with a convicted felon in possession of a handgun, identity theft, possessing a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony, theft of property under $1,000 and possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell the controlled substance.
Officers responded to University Parkway and I 26 on a motor vehicle crash. While investigating the crash, a driver was identified as, Fredrick L. Gist. He initially identified himself using a different name and birthday; however he later produced a South Carolina identification card with accurate information. Mr. Gist was initially detained for driving on a suspended license and searched. On his person, a scale and cash were located. During an inventory of the vehicle, a stolen firearm, diverted prescription medication, and another scale were located. At that time, Mr. Gist was arrested and charged with a convicted felon in possession of a handgun, identity theft, possessing a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony, theft of property under $1,000 and possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell the controlled substance.
Mr. Gist was transported to the Washington County Detention Center and is being held on a $32,000 bond. Mr. Gist’s arraignment is set for Friday, January 26, 2018 at 10:30 a.m.
