SUBJECT: Aggravated Assault DATE: 08/14/16 TIME: 12:28 am.
PREPARED BY: Officer Mike McIntosh APPROVED BY: Sergeant Reggie Sparks
On 08/14/2016, officers of the Johnson City Police Department arrested Tony Coning (711 Hamilton St, Apt. 1, 28 years old) and charged him with Aggravated Assault.
At approximately 12:28 p.m., officers responded to Coning’s address in reference to checking his welfare. Coning’s mother had called 911 concerning Coning making statements that he wanted to harm himself.
As officers knocked on the door and identified themselves, Coning started using profanity towards officers and refused to open the door. Several minutes later Coning opened the door and stepped out onto the front porch. Coning then turned to face one of the officers and pointed a gun at him. That officer was able to take cover behind one of the brick columns supporting the roof and drew his weapon. The second officer on scene drew his weapon and ordered Coning to drop the gun. Coning complied and was taken into custody. The gun Coning used was eventually identified as an air soft gun.
Coning was placed under arrest and transported to the Washington County Detention Center, where he is being held in lieu of a $25,000 bond. Arraignment is set for 1:30 p.m. on 08/15/16 in Washington County General Sessions Court.
