On 6/13/16, officers of the Johnson City Police Department arrested Richard W. Wright Jr.(2301 Sinking Creek Rd. Johnson City, TN, 43 years old) and he was charged with Tampering with Evidence, Unlawful Drug Equipment, Evading Arrest, and Resisting Arrest .
At approximately 6:00 p.m., officers of the Johnson City Police observed 2 white males leaving a known drug location. The two subjects were stopped and the one was identified as Richard Wright. While speaking with Wright, it was determined that he was currently on Parole for prior Burglaries out of Virginia and was currently out on bond for Felony Evading from this agency. A warrants check also confirmed that Wright had an active warrant out of Carter County, Tn. for Failure to Appear. Mr. Wright was then handcuffed and searched. As Wright was handcuffed officers observed a small baggie clenched in his hand. Officers attempted to retrieve that item however; he pulled away and attempted to flee officer’s custody. Wright was then taken to the ground where he began thrashing around and kicking at officers. Wright was then able to get the baggie of the unknown substance to his mouth and swallowed it. After subduing Wright he was then transported to the hospital to be checked and then he was transported to the Washington County Detention Center where he is being held on a $15,000 bond. Arraignment is set for today at 1:30 p.m., in Washington County General Sessions Court.
