On 2/17/16, the Johnson City Police Department arrested Luke Michael McKinney and charged him with auto burglary (2 cts.), identity theft (2 cts.), fraudulent use of a credit card under $500 (2 cts), theft over $1,000, and theft under $500.
On 2/17/16, officers were dispatched to a local pawn shop where McKinney attempted to sell stolen items to the business. The victim of an auto burglary, from earlier this day, had already shown a list of stolen items to the employees of the pawn shop, who recognized these items as the stolen property. The victim’s debit card was also among the stolen items and was fraudulently used in the early morning hours of 2/17/16 at local businesses. During the course of the investigation, other property had been sold to the same pawn shop that were taken from another auto burglary that occurred in Johnson City during the overnight hours of 2/15/16. The investigation is ongoing and more charges are expected.
On 2/17/16, Luke McKinney was placed under arrest and transported to the Washington County Detention Center, where he is being held in lieu of a $28,000 bond. Arraignment is set for 1:30 p.m. on 2/18/16 in Washington County General Sessions Court.
