SUBJECT: Fatal Traffic Crash DATE: 7/19/2013 TIME: 10:40 a.m.

On 07/18/2013 at 5:09 p.m. officers of the Johnson City Police Department were dispatched to the area of Bristol Highway and Bowman Ford Rd in reference to an accident with injuries. Officers arrived and found that a single vehicle accident had occurred. The accident was due to severe weather that had come through the area, producing torrential rain and strong winds. The vehicle involved was a 2012 Volkswagen Jetta that was driven by Tammy McCamy of Bluff City. The vehicle was traveling northbound on Bristol Highway when the driver had slowed down considerably due to the weather. A metal roof system from a shed that belonged to Torbett Plant Farm was blown into the roadway and struck the Jetta in the passenger side. The driver and a back seat passenger, identified as Shelby A. McCamy, age 10, were transported to the Johnson City Medical Center. Shelby A. McCamy died as a result of injuries sustained in this accident. The accident was unavoidable on the driver’s behalf. This accident, like all fatal crashes, is being investigated by the Johnson City Police Department’s Traffic Homicide Team.
